The show starts with a radio transmission from the ship The Galileo. Lt. Becker states that Captain Egan is dead and that he died in a whirlpool and drowned in the stars. The rest of the crew is asleep and dreaming. Dr. Rossiter learns that they are all dreaming the same dream.
Lt. Becker starts reciting the last verse of "To One in Paradise" by Edgar Allan Poe. He also says a line from "A Dream Within A Dream" by Poe; "Through my fingers to the deep, while I weep, while I weep." In a later dream sequence, more lines from Poe are heard.
One the official CD release, there is a noticeable edit in the credit between the words "...Lee Hanson" and "And so, until next week..." The gap is normally where the words "Distributed by Watermark Incorporated" would be. This implies that it was still expected to be distributed by Watermark when this episode was produced. Personally I would be interested to know if LPs for this third series were created or if the cancellation came before they were pressed.
The official CD release of this episode has the audio running slightly slow. It is most apparent during the ending credits. After hearing these shows over an over through the years, it is clear it is running slow. The next episode, The Paralax Deception, which was released on the same CD as A Dream Within A Dream, does not run slow.
I applaud Lee Hanson for making these unaired stories available through the official releases. If you look for the show, please try to find official sources.
