Official Promotional Synopsis:

The Infinity Factor

Faster-than-light speed is reached on an experimental flight in a new Hyperion spacecraft piloted by Capts. Graydon and Griff. The moment they reach the super speed, the ship disappears from all of Starlab's scanner screens. Finding themselves in uncharted space on the other side of the warpthrough, they land on an Earth-like planet and soon discover that as they reached FTL, they and the ship shrank to the size of an atom. Their escape from the dilemma takes them to the limits of their wits and ingenuity.

The Story Part 1:

Tom Lu Ping is working on a super-light speed engine that can go faster than the speed of light.  As Buddy and Jon pilot the vessel on a test flight, the ship disappears from the screens at Starlab.  The ship is suddenly in what they believe to be uncharted space and land on a world where there is a war between two islands in a parallel universe.

Editorial Comments:

It is not explained how the super-light speed is different from the previously mentioned FTL (Faster Than Light) speed engines.

Lord Gunshow states the island is 26 miles across the sea.  Buddy makes a joke about the song "26 Miles (Santa Catalina)" by The Four Preps.  While this is intended as a bit of comedy, it fits perfectly in the with character of Buddy.  It has already been established that Buddy is well versed in pop culture from the 20th century.

All of the aliens on Sacocia have Asian accents.  The character Lord Gunsho is obviously a reference to the popular book and miniseries "Shogun".

The Story Part 2:

Starlab has determined that the Hyperion has been reduced to the size of a sub-atomic particle.  John, Buddy and Tom are trying to help Lord Gunsho and Lady Cammy put an end to the conflict between the two islands.  They are traveling by night to Kodor, but their guide, Kiatsu, is an agent for Lord Hecko.

Editorial Comments:

There is an unexplained anachronism in this story.  The aliens on Sacocia do not have any technology.  Everything sounds like they are traditional Asian villages.  However, there is some kind of an "ion generator" that is used to keep the planet in balance.  The technology of this generator and where it came from are not explained.  It is said that the generator is more primitive than the technology available to the ISA.

Tom described that the ship was in a parallel universe.  Starlab's analysis said that the ship is still there but was reduced to the size of a "microbe". For the story to make some kind of logical sense in a science fiction world, a parallel universe is a better working theory.  If the ship was reduced to the size of a microbe, then it would need to be reduced in size at precisely the same point in space every time in order for Tom to be able to find Sacocia each time or the distance to locate the planet each time could be galaxies apart.  Again, they are more interested in the story, than science and this is science fiction.  With that said, they do make attempts to explain much of what goes on in each story.
