Official Promotional Synopsis:
King Tut's necklace has been stolen by alien humanoids who have hijacked
a space transport carrying the Tut treasure on an interplanetary cultural
exchange mission. Why? The British Museum retains England's most brilliant
consulting detective to help solve the case. During the course of the
investigation, while gently puffing on his meerschaum, he discovers
secrets locked for centuries in the gems of the necklace.
The Story, Part 1:
The ship “Nile Delta” returns with the King Tut exhibit. They stop to aid a
damaged space ship. As they provide aid to the crew, they learn it is
an alien trap and the King Tut beaded necklace is stolen and obtain a tissue
sample from the mummy. The queen calls on Sonar T. Foom to help find
the stolen necklace.
Editorial Comments for Part 1:
The episode is fun take on a Sherlock Holmes adventure. The narrator
makes this clear with the introduction, “An inter-galactic detective story
in the Sherlock Homes Tradition.” The Sherlock character is called
“Sonar T. Foom” and “Dr. Drone” takes role of Dr. Watson. They kept
the original names of Mrs. Hudson and Professor Moriarty.
It is a nice touch that the Nile Delta made a brief appearance in the
previous episode. While the ship was not integral to the story, it was a
nice bit of continuity having the ship make a brief appearance.
Likewise, Maura feeds the fish she was given in the previous episode.
The Story, Part 2:
Sonar T. Foom is on the trail of the stolen necklace. While it is not
known why only the necklace was stolen, it is assumed that the tissue was
stolen for the purpose of mono-cellular replication, cloning. It is
also believed that the aliens are not really aliens, but instead are
descendants of the Egyptian king.
Editorial Comments for Part 2:
Part one and part two of the stories are equally entertaining and well
written. Moriarty is said to be the great, great grandson of the
original Moriarty.
After the credits, Roger Dressler says, “The Adventure of the Egyptian
Necklace is dedicated to the memories of Sir Author Conan Doyle, creator of
England’s most famous consulting detective.”
This is the first episode where they provide the title of next week’s
episode.
Being a fan of Sherlock Homes' stories, I really enjoy listening to this
episode.
