Official Promotional Synopsis:
Is Earth under attack from Mars? The International Space Authority and
the Terellian Military Council have agreed on an ISA officer to act as
referee for Terellian war games on Mars. Enroute to the nearby planet, the
fail-safe circuit on Major Corbin's ship engages and he hears a garbled
message that Earth is being attacked by Mars. Thinking that the Terellians
are mounting a sneak attack, Corbin reacts militarily only to find himself
the victim of a strange, accidental time-warp
The Story:
Military operations are taking place on Mars. As the Zodiac One leaves
the orbit of Jupiter, a radio broadcast on the emergency disaster frequency
contains a broadcast of a vanguard of an invading army from the planet Mars
and San Diego is burned. Unable to raise Starlab, Major Corbin heads
to Mars to attack the Terellians.
Editorial Comments:
The start of this episode gives the date as November 3, 2028.
The captain of the Nile Delta asks Starlab for fuel and states that they are
transporting the King Tut exhibit to Thanotos as part of a cultural exchange
program. The King Tutankhamen exhibition traveled to six
American cities between 1976 and 1979 and became part of popular culture.
I guess it isn’t a surprise to learn that I am a fan of the original 1938
War of the Worlds broadcast by the Mercury Theater. The Kilohertz War
is a tribute to the most famous radio show and is a terrific way to start of
the second season of the series. Those old radio signals are still out
there somewhere and this was a clever way to integrate that 1938 show into
the story. It is likely that today most people do not fully understand
the powerful impact of that show and radio itself, on the nation in 1938.
Two stars are featured players in this episodes cast, Casey Kasem and
