Note:
Although this album is a
compilation of James’ first three albums, there
are some differences.
First, the album is pressed off speed,
making the songs faster and higher pitched. The 1st
side songs are sped up more than the 2nd
side. Second,
there are some slight variations in song mixes. The
most pronounced difference is “Where Am I Now”,
which is double tracked on “Eclipse” but it is
just a single vocal track on “James Lee
Stanley”.

Information
/ Musicians:
Produced, engineered,

This is a new version of the 2002 album, Traces of the Old Road. The title comes from road repaving that has started to chip and wear, revealing the original road that was paved over. That meaning is appropriate for this new album. The original songs have been reworked, with new aspects covering over original tracks that still show through in the mix. James as made the following statement about this new album, “I am very happy with the changes and the sound. It's more the recording I was trying for in 2002.”
Notable Recording Differences:
Notable Recording Differences:
One additional note, “Last Day of Summer” may appear to be a sweet and melancholy song about the passage of summer its surface. Its true inspiration were the days just prior to 9/11, where innocence was tragically lost.

Notes:
All Wood and Doors began
innocently enough at lunch in Woodland Hills,
California where I first met John
Densmore. I showed up at the restaurant
with John's Book, Riders On The Storm. As
I introduced myself, the first words out of his
mouth were, "I love what you did to the Stones
songs on All Wood and Stones."
(www.allwoodandstones.com), a CD that I did with
my pal, John Batdorf
(www.johnbatdorfmusic.com). I was
floored. I had come, thrilled to meet him,
hoping he'd sign my book and he know who I was?
I whipped out the book. "OOO Hard bound!" he
said. We were instant friends. Well, sort of. We
did hit it off and during the lunch he told me
that if I ever did to the Doors songs what I did
to the Stones songs, that he would play
percussion on it. That was enough for me.
I told him I'd hold him to it. A while later, I
ran into Cliff Eberhardt (whose work I LOVE) at
the Folk Alliance International Conference in
Memphis and who, as it happens, was also a fan
of All Wood and Stones. Over a couple of drinks
in the hotel bar, he told me that he was looking
to do a duet CD with someone and I was at the
top of his short list. I told him I'd be
absolutely thrilled to do a CD with him. And six
months later we were at Beachwood Studio
recording the tunes. Just Cliff and I sitting
around playing Doors songs til something
clicked. And Johyn Densmore did play percussion
for us. Soon thereafter, to our joy, we heard
from Robby Krieger, who, upon hearing the
recordings, also volunteered to play on it as
did all the other remarkable musicians / friends
who gave so much of their art and their hearts
to the project. We are humbled and honored by
their efforts and we are thrilled to present
this recording for your pleasure.

Special thanks to Eveline, without whom...

Liner Notes:
Japhy would sacrifice his
freedom for people he will never meet. Ray
would sacrifice all those unknown people
just to protect him.
It's 1970, and when Japhy receives his draft
notice for the Vietnam War, he and
girlfriend, Ray, become Dharma Bums. They
pack their lives into a duffel bag and hitch
to the Canadian border - a safety zone that,
once a drat resister enters, he can never
leave. Not ever. Not to see family.
Not to help injured friends. Not even to
attend a loved-one's funeral.
Japhy and Ray are joined by flower-children,
Leaf and his pregnant bride, Lauren, who are
also running toward the promise of freedom.
They decide to find a hippie commune in
Toronto where all four of them will finally
be free of their demons and safe with their
secrets. Or will they?
Amid a colorful whirl of
psychedelics, love-ins, music, and political
protests, Japhy and his friends discover
everything has a price, freedom is not free,
and true peace comes at a cost whether you
are fighting for it in a war or within the
depths of your own soul. How far would
you go for freedom?
Dove is the first book in
the Freedom Series and was shortlisted for
the Impress Prize For New Writers.

Liner Notes:
In 2003, I was one of
three songwriters, with George Merrill and Rod
McDonald, invited onto the band stage at a
friend's wedding. We realized that we usually
only sang our own songs. So what could we
do together? Rod started singing The Rolling
Stones's "Ruby Tuesday" and George and I
immediately jumped in with harmonies The whole
wedding party charged the stage, enthralled.
On the way home, I decided to record a
collection of classic Rolling Stones songs in an
acoustic style. The result was "All Wood
and Stones" with John Batdorf in 2004.
Later, at a lunch with John Densmore of the
Doors, he would play on it. And 2011's "All Wood
and Doors", with Cliff Eberhardt, was boorn.
Hearing these records, Dan Navarro suggested
that we do Led Zeppelin the same way. Life
intervened (plus several solo CD's and "All Wood
and Stones II" in 2013), and it took until 2019
for Dan and I to find the time to start "All
Wood and Led."
WIth absolute respoect and admiration, we chose
not to simply duplicate the originals, but
instead imagined, "What if Led Zeppelin had
lived in Laurel Canyon in 1967 instead of
England?" Dan and I did all the vocals and
guitars, with out pal Chad Watson on bass,
Washington "Smowdown" Tahr on percussion and the
Phantom Airman on cello.
This album is the result of two years and
hundress of studio hours finding just the right
approach to reimagine the songs of one of the
most successful and influential bands in rock
history, Led Zeppelin. We now present to you,
All Wood and Led. A tribute to Led Zeppelin.
